EDITING SERVICES
A developmental edit is a thorough review of the manuscript, focusing on larger issues like structure, tone, organization, plot, characterization, and stylistic elements. It illuminates overarching and minor issues, and it outlines suggestions for how to resolve them. The author receives a detailed editorial letter (five+ pages), along with edits directly in the manuscript. The editorial letter identifies broad issues involving structure, pacing, development, and flow. The editor also marks the manuscript via Track Changes with notes to support the letter and to point out granular issues specific to sentences and paragraphs. Once the author has had the opportunity to review the developmental edit, the editor will be available to discuss any questions about the editorial review and next steps.
A line edit is a deep dive into the prose of the manuscript. This is the right option for manuscripts that are structurally in good shape but need a thorough review of the grammatical and linguistic elements with extensive sentence-level editing. Line edits emphasize style, flow, and grammar, and they generally come before copyedits. The line edit includes edits in Track Changes and comments about any narrative elements that could improve the manuscript.
